At two of the Fire Fighters Charity car washes in April this month Lancashire Fire and Rescue teamed up with Highways England and Cheshire Fire and Rescue to run a trial checking customers tyres as they went through the car wash.
The joint event was a great success with over £1200 being raised for the Charity. A total of 172 cars were checked at the Lancashire events with the driver agreeing for their tyres to be scanned. They were given useful advice around tyre care and tread depth. From this 29 drivers were given advice to look to change their tyres soon and 3 were advised they were actually below the legal limit. This gave them the opportunity to get their tyres sorted straight away making them safe again . All the drivers who were given advice were really grateful for the information and said it will make them think in future about keeping them maintained.
Clare Burscough, road safety coordinator for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said “It was great because we were able to offer an extra service to road users at an event they were already supporting. We raised vital funds for the Fire Fighters Charity whilst giving potentially life saving information”.
