We know that child car seats are one of the more complex aspects of road safety. Although many parents think they’ve got it ‘right’ there are many common errors. Across the County we run CheckIt events to encourage those transporting children to have the opportunity to double check everything is as it should be.
On the 20th August 2019, Child Seat Safety were available at the Smyths Toys store in Blackburn to answer any concerns or queries from parents and carers to try and ensure that they felt confident in transporting their children safely.
Whilst there was some good engagement during the event some families refused the assistance and unfortunately chose to transport their children illegally; they do potentially now face a fine.
Please remember that under 14 years of age it is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that children are secured correctly using the correct restraint and/or seat belt. The IOSH trained Child Seat Safety Team are often out and about in various boroughs to try and help you understand the differences in car seats and also carry out car seat checks so you can have peace of mind.
