As part of a road safety event, Lancashire County Council partnered up with Car Seat Safety to offer free checks on car seats to families across Lancashire.
148 children and/or their seats were checked over the six dates earlier this year (14th to 16th February & 30th May to 1st June 2018).
57 additional families were given advice on a variety of child seat issues, 8 children were measured and were found to be over 135cm in height and 7 children were measured and had no child seat when they were under 135cm or 12 years of age.
Overall the results were positive, with over half correct usage of child restraints and compliance with the law in the county.
There was an increase in the number of ISOFix seats being used correctly and a better awareness of how this system works since the last time the events were run.
General enquiries from parents were mainly regarding advice on when children no longer need a restraint and children being transported in the front passenger seat as well as guidance on booster seat usage and the 125cm/ 22kg regulation changes. (For more info please visit www.carseatsafety.co.uk)
Child car seat checking events will continue in Lancashire in the near future. Look out for events on line in the future at www.lancsroadsafety.co.uk
