In late 2019 the Lancashire Police and Lancashire Road Safety Partnership delivered a cycle safety talk across Morecambe and Lancaster with a competition for over 2000 local school children.
The competition was to design a cycle safety poster following a presentation by PCSO Pete Atkinson on cycle safety and wearing cycle helmets.
PCSO Peter Atkinson said: “I went to 12 local schools talking to children about wearing cycle helmets to stay safe while out on their bikes. We then ran a competition to design a cycle safety poster at each school with five winners from each school getting a free cycle helmet and some safety goodies. Two overall winners designs have then been made into signs to go outside the winning schools.”
The Lancashire Road Safety Partnership ran the competition with support from Neighbourhood Police based across Morecambe and Lancaster. A specialist judging panel with representatives from across all the emergency services picked the overall winners.
The winning entry by Ellen Carson-Brown has been made into a street sign to be displayed outside her school in Lancaster.
Her aim is to encourage children to wear their cycle helmets.
